Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas was a civil war in Kansas. It started with the admission of California into the union. The gold rush originating from there led to the need of a faster way of travel. Thus, the Kansas-Nebraska Act was created which would admit these two states to create a railroad connecting California. Inspired by the Missouri Compromise of 1850, the states created would have popular sovereignty. Many abolitionist and pro-slavery people flocked the borders trying to persuade the people of Kansas. Eventually, the tension turned to an all out civil war. This was the warm up before the actual civil war which would be ignited by this event.
